The Weekend

Reflecting on the weekend that just passed, I realized how eventful and packed it was. Saturday and Sunday were filled with activities and many fun moments.

Saturday was an IKEA day. We decided to take the metro, and I convinced the whole family to come along. We spent a good amount of money, roughly 17k, which felt quite satisfying. Finally, I got a wall clock and a mirror that I had been eyeing for a long time. Sure, it was a bit pricey, but for me, that's why we earn money—to spend it on things we want. We also picked up some smaller items, making the trip worth it.

Sunday began with some reluctance on my part to venture out. But Preeti, my wife, expressed her frustration about the lack of plus-size stores in Bangalore. So, we headed out to find her some clothes. We visited the 'all' store with a 50% off sale. Though it lacked stock, we managed to find some good pieces. Someone there mentioned another store nearby, Big Hello, with a better collection.

To our surprise, Big Hello turned out to be started by someone who was initially involved in creating the 'all' store at Future Group. We spent close to 20k there, but it was worthwhile as Preeti and Mom found items they liked. After a big shopping spree, we were starving; we went to Nagarjuna for Dinner, and the food was terrific. We devoured our meal like we hadn't eaten in days.

I spent the rest of the evening relaxing and catching the India-Pakistan match. India won, and it was such an unexpected and fantastic victory. Our bowlers turned the game around, a genuine team effort led by Bumrah and Pant.

The weekend felt truly alive. Those two days are meant for living and enjoying life, unlike the other five days, when we're just trying to get by amidst the grind of work. I came across a tweet expressing how it's unhealthy to live for weekends and work the rest of the time. Paul Graham responded by saying it's crucial to find work you enjoy.

Parts of my job are enjoyable, primarily the responsibility and accountability. Yet, if I had financial freedom, I could focus on the parts I love, like content management and enablement. The leadership call on Friday was quite enlightening. Hearing from founders about running a business gave me new insights and motivation to work on reducing churn in our company.

I had a long chat with Christo and Pawas earlier in the day, covering various random topics. We don't delve into personal stuff, but talking nonsense with friends is also valuable. It reminded me that even if we're being silly, it's still time well spent.

Now, I am sitting on the balcony at 3 a.m., taking in Bangalore's pleasant weather and reflecting on the past two days. It felt strange not to reflect before sleeping, so here I am, ending the weekend with some contemplation.
