Screens
We've resigned ourselves to screens-dominated lives. I'm not just pointing fingers; I'm as guilty as anyone. Whether mindlessly scrolling through Twitter, being glued to my work monitor or binging on the latest Netflix series, it's all the same. Screens have become a default setting for us. But what gets me is this is the status quo nobody's challenging. Have we all just accepted this as the unchangeable reality of modern life?
What strikes me is the lack of serious conversation around mindful screen usage. Sure, there might be advice on how to limit our screen time, but it either needs to be louder, or I'm simply not finding it. Every week, I count the days to the weekend, only to waste it in a digital daze, filling the void with whatever content can momentarily grab my attention. And let's talk about family time. Rather than enjoying meaningful interactions, we're likelier to zone out together in front of a TV show.
The problem is even more pervasive than the what and the where we consume digital content. It's about the sheer volume and how it reshapes our sense of presence and engagement with the real world. We're losing out on adventures, personal interactions, and the opportunity to be truly present in the moment. This constant distraction keeps us from self-reflection, exploring our inner selves, and living beyond a glowing screen.
