Cricket at Stadium

Everything about going to a stadium to watch Cricket shouts, “Too much hassle”. Why can you not sit in your living room and watch the match in 4K and save the effort?

The allure of watching the match along with fans is too strong to ignore.

I went alone to the recent test match between India and New Zealand. I love doing things alone. It helps me truly know if I love doing the activity or if I am lying to myself.

The noise, free commentary from the audience, and bad fast food do add to the “atmosphere.” There is no denying that. The experience also gives you a glimpse into the minds of the audience and how they consume the game of cricket.

The elderly man sitting next to me was circumspect and uttered words only when needed. The same cannot be said about the two guys who were talking about the right age to get married. A 35+ year-old guy was telling his friend to get married before it was too late. A family was trying to make sense of the match. It was clear that the man of the house compelled others to join him on the ‘adventure’.

The novelty wears off soon. How many photos are enough for you to post on Social Media? Once you have let the world know that you are watching the match live, what purpose does sitting in the stadium serve?

I went to the stadium for two days, spending maybe 3 hours per day and 4 hours on the commute. I am glad I went, and I am also glad I went back home when I got bored. I like Test cricket, but definitely not enough to sit and watch it for five days in the stadium.
